Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Festival

A few weeks ago, we headed up to South Park to check out the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship. It was our first time, and frankly: I kinda wonder why we waited so long to hit it up.
A whole bunch of musicians converged upon the park, to take part in the folk singing, fiddle, picking, guitar, banjo competitions. Two stages were set up, on opposite sides of the park, and groups formed along other parts of the park.  There was also a silly hat parade, several impromptu jam sessions, lots of dancing and singing, and food galore (we enjoyed a few beers and kettle corn, which was like a buck for a huge bag?? Score). All three of us really had a great time.

Pictures follow. Enjoy!

The judges were hidden behind quilt barriers.

This man had magnificent pants. No, really. I kinda wish I could find a pair like that in Pete’s size (also to be worn ironically).
