Bourbon Peach Smash {Cocktail Time!}

I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and posting a cocktail recipe rather than something foodie. Now: I like a good cocktail, I really do. The Pig has a few awesome infused vodkas that they make great cocktails with, and there is nothing quite as lovely as enjoying a good Manhattan along with good conversation at The Eldridge. Wow, two of my favorite ways to spend an hour before dinner (or after dinner. Or before hitting up a movie at Liberty Hall…).

Anyway, I love a fancy cocktail but honestly, if I’m having one then I’m going to order one when we are having an evening out. I am all about an easy drink if we’re enjoying it at home, I’ll have a beer or glass of wine or maybe a gin and tonic, I mean that’s easy.

And then I spied this recipe. Oh, drool. It certainly sounded like winner of a recipe, and worth the effort of more than two ingredients, so I filed it away for the perfect time. A few weeks ago it was hot, and swampy (as I like to lovingly refer to our humid Kansas summers), and I figured: if there was ever a good time to whip up a refreshing, fresh borboun cocktail well then – now was certainly The Time.

When I ran to the grocery store to grab our grilling goodies I made sure to add the cocktail ingredients to my shopping list. I did have to modify things a wee bit – peaches weren’t exactly in season yet, so I went with peach nectar instead. Which was nice, because it meant the simple syrup wasn’t really necessary.

I tweaked a few other measurements and made a small carafe of the ingredients (minus the ginger ale). The peach and lemon keep the flavor sweet and light, the ginger gives it a nice bite, and the ginger ale makes it good and fizzy and refreshing. Um, if you make these make sure no one is driving, because it will be hard to have just one and be done. And that’s probably the best advice I can give 🙂

Ingredients:
1 can peach nectar (I used Goya)
3 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 to 1-1/2 tsp. freshly grated ginger
4 to 5 oz. bourbon
Good ginger ale (like Boylan, or a ginger beer)
1 peach, sliced, for garnish

In a carafe, add the peach nectar, the lemon juice, ginger, and bourbon. Stir nicely to incorporate.

Pour into a glass over ice, filling the glass maybe halfway, then top with ginger ale. Garnish with peach slices.
