Week in Review – 13 Nov 2011
Hi everybody! It’s Sunday, and with my daily November blogging I don’t have a ton of stuff to add, let’s just focus on the weekend. I had a shoot downtown on Saturday morning, I got there a little early to scout for spots but was instead entranced by a bag in the window at hobbs and spent my time walking back and forth and back to that cute little bag. So much for planning ahead for a photo shoot.
After the shoot I headed home and we was shocked to watch a very-close KU ball game. Of course we majorly screwed it up and lost at the end (I mean, OF COURSE) but it was entertaining until the last few seconds, and that’s a lot more than I’ve had to say of them all season. God bless them, but they suck terribly at football. I did some cleaning and after Pete’s nap, we headed back downtown to do some window-shopping and pick up some cupcakes at the newly opened Billy Vanilly store. I finally got a shot of the Return-of-the-Jedi-inspired window display at one of the gaming stores.
Spoiler: Billy Vanilly totally sold out before we stepped in the store. Gah. We will return another day, make no mistake. We still had fun, making mental notes of things to come back to buy family members for Christmas and picking up a few books for Pete at The Dusty Bookshelf. Scott scored some like-new old school British Thomas the Train books, he found them and showed them to me, then headed to the register to purchase them and had them tucked in a brown paper bag, safely hidden away, before Pete was even able to tear his loving gaze away from their poor long-suffering store cat.
It really wasn’t that late when we headed home but Pete was a bit weirded out by the fact that it was dark. Welcome to Daylight Savings Standard Time, my darling.
Sunday we ran errands and took care of laundry. I made a ton of veggie burgers for freezing (recipe later this week). I took inventory of all my Christmas stuff. And then, after Pete’s nap, I hustled the boys to Target because holy cow you guys, but today is the day that the Harajuku Mini line dropped at Target stores. I practically sprinted through the store to the boys’ apparel section and, SHOCKINGLY, all the pieces were still there (Lawrence may be considered a hipster town but that’s PURELY because it is a college town, it doesn’t have much to do with us regular occupants, and anyway college kids can’t fit in size 2T so there you go).
I allowed myself to purchase one thing. Then I narrowed it down between the plaid punk pants, black skinny cords, and mini biker jacket. I went for the jacket. Only because Pete already has a pair of black skinny pants (that thus far I have been too chicken to put on him for fear of giving his father a heart attack), and I have a pair of plaid pants on order for him from MiniBoden. So it was an easy choice. I have to say though: that fuzzy yellow-eared sweatshirt thing that was only in infant sizes made me go crazy for a split second and wish for another kid, just so I could have a chubby little body to stuff into that thing.
I do have a small beef with my dear friend Gwen Stefani. Honey: your 2 little boys have the best fashion style on the planet, clearly you have no trouble dressing boys. So WHY OH WHY are there a mere 14 pieces to the boys line? There are racks and racks of girl stuff. Over 40 different pieces. That’s kinda lame. PS – I do adore all the tulle dresses though, very 80s Madonna, mad props to you for that.
So we left the clothing section, perused the toys for a little bit, then checked out sleds on our way to the bikes/helmet area. And Pete went crazy and ran off with “my new boat” [a sled]. And had a bit of a meltdown when we made him put it back. The end.
We also checked out all the awesome stuff in the holiday section, and Scott found his dream come true, his soul mate, the love of his life, and her name is One Pound Sized Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. And he had a bit of a meltdown when I made him put it back. The end.
And that does (sadly) pretty much sum up our weekend. Boring stuff done around the house and then a long, lovely trip to Target. We have re-enacted the “cheese tray for dinner on Sundays” thing (we got sick of it after awhile, then had “appetizer Sundays”, then “nice slow-cooked roast-type-of-dinner Sundays”, now back to cheese tray. We have come full circle). The nice thing about it now is that the cheese tray idea was basically invented by toddlers, man, so Pete thinks Sunday evenings are The Best Thing EVAR. Cheese and crackers and summer sausage and fruit? As much as I can grab and put on my plate? IN THE LIVING ROOM WITH MIGHTY MACHINES ON THE TV? Score. And Scott and I can enjoy some wine and check our social networking sites uninterrupted, so: all is well. I think we are all ready to face another week.
Oh and PS – more fun downtown pictures to come soon
